This was the most frustrating and angering car buying experience of my life. I live in Cedar Falls so wanted to give the local dealers a shot at finding me a good deal on a Dodge Grand Caravan. I walked in and talked to a salesman name Derek. I told him about a bunch of 2014 SXT I had found online and asked if he could find me something similar for similar money. He found me a van the next day so I went in to look at it. It was a great van and my wife and I planned on buying it. We were $300 away from making a deal. Derek sent me home with the van to show my wife. I took the van back that night with the understanding that we were serious about buying it but were still a few hundred away from making the deal. The next day I tried to get ahold of Derek but he would not get back to me. I could even see that he had received and read a text msg I sent him from my Iphone to his. I guess he didn't know he had his msg setting set to let others know after he read his msgs. The next day I called him and he made up a lie about being off the day before. He called me back 3 hours later to tell me someone else sold the van while he was gone. I later found out that he sold the van to someone else the day he claimed to be "off" at a higher price than he was offering me to buy it. A different salesman sold him out to me and also revealed that the story he told me about the 80 year old couple that traded the van in was a load of crap too. Shady guy and a shady dealership. The other Dodge Dealership they have in Waterloo found out about what happened and said they would make everything right for us just to keep us as customers. Instead, they wasted 3 hours of our Saturday for a new van that was already over priced. I've never had a good visit to any of the Dan Deery Dealerships and that's why I have not and will not buy anything from a Deery. Everytime I've been to their dealerships I always watch the way the salesmen interact with the customers and the majority seem to try to "handle" the potential buyers. It's salesmen like Derek at the Dan Deery Truck center off main street in Cedar Falls that put such a sour taste in peoples mouths about used car salesman. Deery Dealerships and this particular salesman are the stereotypical used car salesman type. Do your research. Dan Deery vehicles are always higher priced than anywhere else in Iowa. That's why I bought a used Toyota Camry from Cedar Rapids Toyota in 2010 for $4,000 less than the sticker price of similar Camrys that had more miles on them at Deery Toyota. Drive a few miles and save a few thousand dollars.
